Longing is a meditation on memory, disconnection, and the pursuit of peace amid the chaos of modern life. Katherine Percival reflects on the tension between constantly being “on” and the desire to slow down. Her work is inspired by a deep personal connection to the Bruce Peninsula, which has become a frequent destination for Katherine, providing a landscape of grounding calm in her perpetual search for stillness.

The exhibition is anchored by a vivid use of colour, drawn from both memory and photographs, where Katherine captures moments of emotional resonance. The cubes in her work symbolize the pixelation of memory—the structure that remains as details fade. This struggle to preserve the essence of a moment as it slips away into abstraction reflects the challenge of grasping fleeting memories.

At the core of Longing is a reflection on the struggle to capture time and preserve moments of peace. The landscapes revisited in this work represent an ongoing pursuit of tranquility, where the need to escape the relentless pace of life is ever-present.
